Top Ten Things To See And Do In Croatia
In my opinion, the Top 10 things to see and do in Croatia are as follows. First of all, I would say that if you are interested in wildlife then you should not miss out on this island, at least not to the extent that you may have imagined. A visit to the Zadar sanctuary will give you a taste of what is there in the way of wildlife. The Crocodile Farm in Kvarner is an interesting site to go too, although not something that you can do. There is also the Dracula Castle, but, again, not for those with animal phobias. I must say though that if you like your history then the Island of Dubrovnik offers more than enough historical sights for a good few days’ vacation.
Top tip number one is to visit the Adriatic coastline and the many islands and cays surrounding it. Most of the islands are self catering, but there are some that do require a deposit. I would also suggest a stay away from the months of August to October when most of the major festivals are taking place. The main festival of the region is the Sonni Dimitrij, which attracts millions of visitors from all over the world.
The next place I would consider an important cultural destination is the Croatian capital, Dubrovnik. I cannot say that this city is cultural in the true sense of the word, but it is home to several notable museums. Among them are the Ustavgrad Museum and the National Gallery. For some people, these are enough to set aside a visit to the city. Others may find the museum and the galleries enough to justify a second day.
The Zadar district is located to the north of Dubrovnik and is a highly sought after area for tourists. It is a bustling area where fine dining and shopping abound. I would certainly recommend a visit to this area, especially if you are a lover of the arts. Besides the Zadar Museum, there are several other beautiful museums here.
The third place I would like to mention is Rijeka. This is another cultural hot spot in Croatia. If you are a history buff, you will fall in love with Rijeka. This is a historic city that is full of museums and monuments. It is a city that is definitely worth a day or two of travel.
The fourth and final part of my list for destinations in Croatia is the capital, Dubrovnik. Dubrovnik served as the base of operations for the Croatian army during the war and is home to many amazing monuments. One of these is the Old Fort on Stvarin. It is definitely a must see! The city also offers some excellent shopping.
The fifth and final destination on my list is the Kvarner Forest. This forest is definitely a gem in the region of Croatia. The only thing that is not quite a gem is the village of Kvarner itself. The village is pretty much forgotten but it still offers an excellent hiking trail. The whole area is certainly worth a day or two of wandering around.
Hopefully this was helpful to give you some ideas on where you can go and what you can do. Croatia is an incredible country with some truly stunning scenery. If you like history and culture, then you will love Croatia. If you like golf, than Croatia is definitely for you. All in all, this was just a quick list of some of the top places to go and see in Croatia. My intention was not to mention all of the places, but just give you a good place to start.
